Men & Healing Phase I

Men & Healing: Phase I is a 10-session/10-week group counselling program designed for male survivors of childhood sexual and/or physical abuse.  Its purpose is to prepare men for their journey of trauma recovery.  This is not a support group; it is facilitated by experienced and professional staff of The Men’s Project.

While the format of the group is interactive, group members are not required to divulge personal information to the group.  This group seeks to expand coping strategies and increase knowledge and awareness of post-traumatic stress, impacts of abuse, and paths of recovery.

The topics of Phase I include:
  • Understanding Trauma and Recovery
  • The Aftermath of Trauma
  • Handling Stress & Crises
  • Dissociation & Grounding
  • Trauma & Relationships
  • Trauma & Identity
  • Emotions & Trauma
  • What to expect in Men & Healing Phase II
Individual counselling is highly recommended for men interested in enrolling in Phase I, but is not a prerequisite.  This counselling can be arranged at The Men's Project or we can help you find a counsellor. An individual assessment is a requirement before joining the program. Phase I graduates are able to join one of our Phase II group counselling programs, if they so choose.
